Leggett and Other Officials to Celebrate International Walk To School Day at Whetstone Elementary School


WALK FROM CENTERWAY PARK TO WHETSTONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

BEGINS at 9 a.m.

Centerway Park – 9551 Centerway Road, Gaithersburg

Whetstone Elementary School - 19201 Thomas Farm Rd, Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Montgomery County Public School Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith will celebrate International Walk to School Day with other officials and the Whetstone Elementary School community.

Joining Leggett and Smith will be Montgomery County Councilmembers Sidney Katz and Craig Rice, Director of Department of Transportation Al Roshdieh, Director of MCPD Traffic Division Captain Tom Didone, Assistant Police Chief Betsy Davis, Fire Chief Scott Goldstein, Principal Victoria Casey and other officials, along with Whetstone Elementary School students, patrols, staff and parents.  Also in attendance will be Watkins Mill high school students who volunteer to help Whetstone Elementary School students as part of the “Safe Walk Home” program, in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation.

Sponsors of this year’s Walk to School event at Whetstone Elementary School include Safe Kids Montgomery County, AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Foundation for Safety and Education, Federal Express, Montgomery County Department of Transportation, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Montgomery County Police, Montgomery County Department of Recreation and Whetstone Elementary School.

Note to Editors: The event also will feature public safety equipment such as a fire engine and Safe Kids van.

Parking is available at Centerway Park or on Thomas Farm Road.
