For Immediate Release: Monday, October 24, 2016

Wednesday, October 26, 2016; 1 p.m.
12210 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will celebrate the opening of Glenmont Fire Station #18. The new 23,133 square-foot station is built on the site of the former Glenmont Elementary School at the southwest intersection of Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road in an area of the County that continues to see tremendous growth and aligns with the fire department’s mission of delivering outstanding service to the residents, businesses, and visitors to Montgomery County.

Joining Leggett will be County Council President Nancy Floreen; County Council Member and Public Safety Committee Chair Marc Elrich; County Council Member (District 4) Nancy Navarro; Council Members Sidney Katz and Hans Riemer; Fire Chief Scott Goldstein; Department of General Services Director David Dise; Mid-County Regional Services Director Luisa Montero-Diaz; and Kensington Volunteer Fire Department President Norm Jones.

The design of Fire Station #18 includes many eco-friendly features; and while originally designed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification specifications; the project is now on track to receive a Gold designation pending final Green Business Certification Incorporated review and approval.

Parking: There is off-street parking available in the adjacent neighborhood and handicapped parking available at the fire station. Fire & Rescue will also run shuttle vans beginning at noon from the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, 2400 Arcola Avenue, for guests that would like to park and ride to the event.
