County Executive Ike Leggett and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee will honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a special tribute ceremony. Joining Leggett will be Council President Roger Berliner, Council Member Craig Rice, Council Member Hans Riemer, John Sarbanes, Congressman Maryland’s 3rd District; John Delaney, Congressman Maryland’s 6th District and Jamie Raskin, Congressman Maryland’s 8th District
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” is the theme for this year’s public celebration. The event will include a dramatic presentation titled, “From Montgomery Alabama to Montgomery County,” performed by local actors, students and volunteers. Other performances will include dance ensembles, vocalists, choirs and a special performance of “Justice In America” by Joy of Motion performers. The 2017 recipients of the Children of the Dream, Humanitarian and Literary Arts Awards will be announced.

Children of the Dream: Kailande Cassamajor, 12th grade, Wheaton High School
The Humanitarian Award: Rockefeller Ludwig Twyman
