Montgomery County Summer Programs Extended Due to Later Start Date of School Year

Mid-County Community Recreation Center

2004 Queensguard Road, Silver Spring

County Executive Ike Leggett will be joined by Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith, Board of Education Vice President Dr. Judith Docca and Department of Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz to announce that the Montgomery County Department of Recreation will extend summer full and half-day programming.

The extension of services aims to support families without childcare options following the executive order that Gov. Larry Hogan signed last fall which required Maryland’s public schools to start classes after Labor Day, beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Montgomery County Public Schools traditionally started the school year the first Monday of the last full week in August. http://governor.maryland.gov/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/pixel.png
