County Executive Leggett, Councilmember Leventhal and Community Partners Will Remember Homeless Individuals at Memorial Services

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 2, 2017

Wednesday, June 7, 2017
10:15 a.m.
Executive Office Building Circuit Court Plaza
101 Monroe Street, Rockville

County Executive Isiah Leggett will be joined by County Councilmember George Leventhal and community non-profits who partner with the County to memorialize homeless individuals who have died in 2016 and 2017.

Leggett will also announce a community-wide effort to renew the focus on housing the chronically homelessness by the end of 2017.  A chronically homeless individual is someone who has experienced homelessness for a year or longer, or who has experienced at least four episodes of homelessness in the last three years (must be a cumulative of 12 months), and has a disability. A family with an adult member who meets this description would also be considered chronically homeless.

Individuals who have experienced homelessness, as well as non-profit groups who work to end homelessness will be available for interviews.

In the 2017 Point-in-Time survey published by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), there are 1100 individuals experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County.
