Montgomery County Commemorates World Elder Abuse Awareness Week with 7th Annual Senior Safety Forum

In conjunction with World Elder Abuse Awareness Week, celebrated internationally June 13 through 17, Montgomery County, in partnership with the City of Rockville, will hold its seventh annual senior safety event. The Senior Safety Forum for Age-Friendly Montgomery County features speakers, exhibits and demonstrations, and is planned to raise awareness of elder abuse, and provide informational resources to improve the safety of senior citizens.

 

At this year’s event there will be workshops offered on such topics as: Information Technology Safety, Money Smart for Older Adults, Outsmarting the Con Man/Identity Theft Prevention, Emergency Preparedness and Alert Montgomery, and how making music can relieve stress. There will also be special safety information from the Montgomery County Department of Police and the Fire and Rescue Service.

 

Participants include:  Montgomery County and City of Rockville elected officials, public safety and health and recreation officials. Attendees can enjoy live music, door prizes, and free bag lunches while supplies last. There is also the opportunity to turn in expired or unused prescription drugs to police. 

 

The event is coordinated by the County’s Elder/Vulnerable Adult Abuse Task Force comprised of members of the Montgomery Department of Police, the State’s Attorney’s Office, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
