Montgomery County Students Team Up with the County’s Environmental Protection and Public Schools to Protect the Environment

For Immediate Release: Monday, October 16, 2017

Tuesday, October 17; 10:30 a.m.

Strathmore Elementary School

3200 Beaverwood Lane in Silver Spring

Strathmore Elementary School students will join County Executive Ike Leggett, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jack R. Smith, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Director Lisa Feldt, Strathmore Elementary School Principal Tivinia G. Nelson and Strathmore Intern Principal Carrie Zimmerman to officially complete the rain gardens constructed this past summer at Strathmore.

These rain gardens, built by Montgomery County DEP in cooperation with MCPS, provide multiple environmental benefits, including improved water quality to our local streams which feed into the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. The gardens also provide a habitat for pollinators and create jobs.

Note to editors: The ceremony will take place outside behind the elementary school.

Photo ops include: a ribbon cutting, students and officials planting, remarks from officials and a student presentation.
