Leggett to Rename “The Buffalo Soldiers Great Hall” at the Silver Spring Civic Building

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will dedicate and rename the Great Hall at the Silver Spring Civic Building as The Buffalo Soldiers Great Hall. There will be a special recognition of former Buffalo Soldier and longtime Silver Spring resident James Harden Daugherty, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 91. During World War II, Daugherty served as a soldier in the Army’s 92^nd Infantry Division in a segregated unit made up of African Americans known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
