Leggett and Local Officials to Welcome Inclusive Cities Delegation from the United Kingdom

County Executive Ike Leggett will officially welcome members of a British delegation whoare visiting Montgomery County for five days. The delegates are part of the Inclusive Cities, a project of University of Oxford’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society, a knowledge exchange initiative, which aims to support the cities to develop a step change in their approach to newcomers. 

Joining Leggett will be Bruce Adams, director, Office of Community Partnerships and Diane Vu, Asian liaison, Office of Community Partnerships.   

The twelve-member delegation brings representatives from six UnitedKingdom (U.K.) cities - Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Peterborough and London – and arevisiting Montgomery County to learn how communities in the United States approach integration of newcomers.  

While in Montgomery County, the U.K. delegation will also meet with Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart; Uma Ahluwaila, director, Department of Health and Human Services; Bruce Adams, director, Office of Community Partnerships; Kaori Hirakawa,director, Charles W. Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center; along with representatives from Montgomery College; the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation: the Interfaith Advisory Council and the Montgomery County Police Department to learn their innovative approaches for immigrant integration and welcoming new residents.
