NOTICE OF PRE-ELECTION MAIL-IN BALLOT CANVASS

For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 11, 2024

The pre-election Mail-in canvass for the 2024 Presidential Primary Election will begin on Monday, April 22, 2024 (10AM), at Montgomery College – Germantown Bioscience Education Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, MD 20876.

The canvass schedule is available on the Montgomery County Board of Elections website at 777vote.org. All dates are subject to change as the canvass schedule is highly dependent on the number of returned mail-in ballots.

Mail-in ballots are counted in a public canvass process by bipartisan teams of election workers. The public can observe the canvass process in-person or virtually by selecting the livestream link available on 777vote.org. The results of pre-election canvasses will be withheld until the polls close on Election Day, Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

Election officials must review applications for provisional ballots submitted during Early Voting and on Election Day. Verification of the provisional application must occur before the envelope is opened and the ballot is counted. Provisional ballots are also counted in a public canvass process by bipartisan teams of election workers. Results for each of these ballot canvass sessions are then added to the post-Election Day totals before the official election results are certified. The detailed Provisional ballot canvass schedule will be available on the Montgomery County Board of Elections website at www.777vote.org. The Provisional ballot canvass is legally mandated to start on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 10AM, and it will be held at Montgomery College – Germantown Bioscience Education Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, MD 20876. The Provisional ballot canvass will be open to the public and livestreamed on the Board of Elections web page.
