For Immediate Release: Friday, December 20, 2024
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will attend the annual holiday party for soon-to-be-released individuals and their families held by the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The event begins at 2 p.m. at the Pre-Release and Reentry Center (PRRS) at 11651 Nebel Street in Rockville. The PRRS offers community-based residential and non-residential alternatives to secure confinement for sentenced adult offenders, where they engage in work, treatment, education, family involvement and other services to prepare them for release.
The event is held in conjunction with the National Coalition of Prison Ministries, a coalition of 23 churches, synagogues and mosques from the region that coordinate services to incarcerated individuals. The group works year-round to help promote healthy families and offer support that encourages reform and rehabilitation.
Several groups, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Omega Omega Chapter, Xerox Corporation, Signal Bank and the United States Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program will provide holiday gifts to children.
Families receiving gifts have already been preselected based on program requirements. There are no opportunities at the event for walk-up attendees to receive gifts.
