Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and Habitat for Humanity to Install Eco-Friendly Landscaping at Affordable Housing Site Saturday, May 10 in Silver Spring

Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection officials will join Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and County Councilmember Natalie Fani-González to install environmentally friendly landscaping and shade trees at Alllium Place, a new affordable housing development in Silver Spring. The event will include brief remarks from local leaders, ceremonial plantings and a community planting event. County officials recently dedicated three single-family homes within the development, which includes 195 mixed-income affordable housing units.

Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection provided more than 1,000 square feet of native plant gardens through its RainScapes program, designed to manage stormwater runoff and support pollinators. Tree Montgomery contributed five large shade trees to help expand the tree canopy and strengthen climate resilience
