WEARING RED FOR EQUAL PAY

“Equal Pay Day,” which was originated in 1996 and is the day people are encouraged to wear red to show that the wages of women are “in the red,” was celebrated by the Montgomery County Council on March 28. Councilmembers showed their “red” to symbolize the date on which wages paid to American women catch up to wages paid to men from the previous year At the ceremonies in Rockville, from left to right: Councilmembers Sidney Katz, George Leventhal, Nancy Navarro and Nancy Floreen; Holly Joseph of the National Organization for Women of Montgomery County; Council President Roger Berliner; Jeannette Feldner of NOW; and Councilmembers Hans Riemer, Craig Rice, Tom Hucker and Marc Elrich.
