First Day of School

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and Senator Chris Van Hollen joined Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith to spend the morning of the first day of school welcoming students back from summer vacation. They visited three Silver Spring-area schools: Paint Branch High School, Jackson Road Elementary School and White Oak Middle School. The group was accompanied by School Board Members Rebecca Smondrowski and Jill Ortman-Fouse, principals, teachers and staff members. MCPS welcomed more than 161,000 students back to school - the largest enrollment in the County’s history. See more photos from Flickr.
