The County Files an Opioid Lawsuit

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett announced that the County has filed a lawsuit against a number of companies related to Opioids. Leggett was joined by County Councilman Sidney Katz; a representative of Sen Ben Cardin; representatives of the County Attorney’s office; a representative from Robbins Geller Rudman & David LLP, the County’s outside counsel on this lawsuit; and Helen Najar of SOUL (Surviving Our Ultimate Loss) who lost her 28-year-old daughter, Kelly O’Connor, to a heroin/fentanyl overdose in June 2016; and other members of SOUL. In 2016, alone, more than 64,000 people died in the United States from lethal drug overdoses – more that the number of U.S. soldiers who died during the entirety of the Vietnam War.
