Montgomery Council Education Committee to Have Significant Discussion Regarding MCPS Funding for FY15 on Monday, May 12

The Montgomery County Council’s Education Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 12, for a discussion on significant details regarding the Fiscal Year 2015 operating budget of Montgomery County Public Schools.

The Education Committee, which is chaired by Council President Craig Rice and includes Councilmembers Phil Andrews and Cherri Branson, will meet in the Third Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The session will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon). The broadcast also will be streamed at:

Leaders from Montgomery County Public Schools also are expected to attend the worksession.

The Education Committee worksession is part of the Council’s review of County Executive Isiah Leggett’s recommended Fiscal Year 2015 operating budget. The recommendations of the Education Committee will go to the full Council for consideration on Wednesday, May 14. The Council is scheduled to reach a tentative agreement on the overall budget on Thursday, May 15, and is scheduled to formally adopt the budget on May 22. The budget will go into effect on July 1.

Immediately after the meeting, key individuals will stay in the Third Floor Hearing Room and be available to the media. Council President Rice will not hold his regular Monday briefing with the media. He will be available to answer questions about decisions made by the Education Committee and will answer questions on other issues.
