Montgomery Council Vice President Leventhal to Participate in Purple Line Chat As Part of ‘World Car Free Day’

For Immediate Release: Friday, September 19, 2014

Montgomery County Council Vice President George Leventhal from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, will join the Action Committee for Transit in a “Twitter Chat” that will highlight how the future Purple Line will benefit residents. The event is part of the celebration of “World Car Free Day.”

The Action Committee for Transit (ACT) is using the special day to highlight the opportunity to go car free and enjoy shorter commutes with the planned Purple Line. The Purple line will be an east-west line that connects the Bethesda Metro Station with the New Carrollton Station in Prince George’s County.

ACT board member Sareana Kimia will join Council Vice President Leventhal in the chat. They will answer questions about the Purple Line in English and Spanish, as well as share the latest developments concerning the Purple Line.

“We have never been as close to having the Purple Line become a reality as we are now,” said Council Vice President Leventhal. “As we get closer, people are becoming more interested in how this line will benefit them and their families. When they learn of the possibilities, they become more enthused. On Monday night, we will be able to address a wide range of issues involving this exciting project.”

Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #GoPurpleGoCarFree.

As part of the day’s events, Ms. Kimia, also will be live tweeting as she commutes from her home near the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station in Bethesda to her 9 a.m. class on the College Park campus. She boards her first bus at 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Strathmore Avenue and then must transfer to two other buses. The same trip would only take 55 minutes using the Purple Line.
