Montgomery Councilmember Craig Rice, MCPS Interim Superintendent Bowers, Montgomery College Senior VP Sanjay Rai to Continue Education Forums on Mon., March 9

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 6, 2015

Montgomery County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Interim Superintendent of Schools Larry Bowers and Montgomery College’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Sanjay Rai at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 9, will host the second of five public forums they will hold to provide information, and seek input, on the programs and budgets of the County’s public school system and its community college. The second forum will be held at Sherwood High School.

Sherwood High School is located at 300 Olney / Sandy Spring Road in Sandy Spring. The forum is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The series of Education Budget Meetings will continue at Gaithersburg High School on March 11; Kingsview Middle School in Germantown on March 16; and Churchill High School in Potomac on March 23. The first forum was held on March 2 in Silver Spring.

“These forums will provide an opportunity for residents to have their questions answered about the education budgets at both the State and County level from kindergarten through the early years of college,” said Councilmember Rice. “We will talk about how budget decisions are made, and will work to explain the circumstances concerning the new budget we are addressing for the fiscal year that begins on July 1. We also will discuss the opportunities residents will have to influence budget decisions. And in this early stage of the budget process, we want to hear from residents about their concerns, their priorities and how they fit with the amount of funding available.”
