TODAY on ‘Tuned In’ Radio America Show

In New 60-minute Format at New Time of 2:30 p.m. on

WACA 1540 AM, He Will Address Recently Approved Law

to Ban Pesticides from Being Applied to Lawns

ROCKVILLE, Md., October 23, 2015Montgomery County Council President George Leventhal will be the featured guest TODAY on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned In with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540 AM). The show recently debuted a new 60-minute format starting at the new time of 2:30 p.m. The main focus of today’s show will be a law recently approved by the Council that will ban the application of pesticides to lawns. Council President Leventhal also will discuss an upcoming Sister Cities trip to El Salvador.

 

Council President Leventhal was the chief sponsor of the bill to ban harmful pesticides from being applied to private lawns. The County immediately is going to stop applying pesticides to grass area of County parks. A pilot program will be started regarding County-owned playing fields to find an alternative to pesticides for maintaining those heavily used areas.

Other guests on today’s show will be Alex Alex Stavitsky-Zeineddin of Safe Grow Montgomery, an organization that has advocated for banning pesticide use in the County, and Carlos Moya, who is an agronomist and owner of Ecomillennium Enterprises Corp.

Among the other topics Council President Leventhal will discuss is an upcoming trip of County representatives to Montgomery County’s Sister City in El Salvador. Council President Leventhal has been leading the effort to obtain medical supplies and equipment for a hospital there. This trip will be a follow-up to a prior trip in which Montgomery County officials are trying to provide aid and advice to the local authorities there.

 

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered into a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions of Councilmembers. The partnership includes the weekly show each Friday on the Washington Region's most popular Spanish language station.

 

The expanded format of the show to 60 minutes starting at 2:30 p.m. will allow for additional guests and more phone calls from listeners each week.

 

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and occasionally the show provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents and businesses.
