Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, will be the featured guest at 2:30 p.m. TODAY, Friday, March 18, on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned In with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540 AM). One focus of the show will be on County Executive Isiah Leggett’s Fiscal Year 2017 recommended budget that will now be reviewed by the Council. Councilmember Leventhal will address how he believes the budget could impact certain programs, including education.
Councilmember Leventhal also will talk about children fleeing violence from countries with unstable governments, and the journeys some of these children take to find homes in the County. He will discuss the Central American Minors (CAM) Refugee/Parole Program that provides certain qualified children in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras a safe, legal and orderly alternative to the dangerous conditions that some children endure as they travel to the United States.
The show also will address the upcoming April 26 Maryland primary election. There will be an increased number of early voting centers for this year’s primary and the November general election.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered into a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one- hour show each Friday on the Washington Region’s most popular Spanish language station.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and occasionally the show provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
