For Immediate Release: Tuesday, April 19, 2016
The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control announced that two Alcohol Inspectors, Guy Poirier and Tim Zywiolek, will be honored with the Keeping It Safe Community Service Award for their contribution in deterring under 21 alcohol use and reducing adolescent access to alcohol. Additionally, Brian Ward, Manager of the Montrose DLC retail store, is being honored with the Keeping It Safe Community Service Award for his efforts to deter use of fake IDs.
The Montgomery County Coalition, Keeping It Safe (KIS) reminds the community that “Under 21 alcohol use is illegal, unhealthy and unacceptable.” Established in 1992, a group of concerned public and private agencies and residents collaborated to with the goal prevent underage drinking and reduce alcohol access through education, enforcement support and youth involved programs.
Inspector Poirier and Zywiolek will be awarded for their contribution in the coalition’s We Check ID’s Poster Project, a collaboration with Richard Montgomery High School Students that worked to design preventative point of sale materials for display at Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control retail stores and participating licensed businesses licensed to sell or serve alcohol.
“We are really proud of the work Inspector Poirier and Zywiolek do. They are well known for their proactive approach to solving community issues and mediation between businesses and surrounding neighborhoods. We applaud their efforts and support their leadership role in the community,” says Kathie Durbin, Division Chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education.
“Mr. Ward has gone above and beyond in his effort to work with enforcement to gather fake ID recognition information and then educate and incentivize clerks to identify fake IDs within the store,” says Diane Wurdeman, Acting Chief of Retail Operations.
The awards will be presented at an award ceremony at Police Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20878 on April 20, 2016 at 8:30 am.
