Department of Liquor Control Trains Licensees in Safe Alcohol Service

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, June 7, 2016

The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) will hold a free Alcohol Law Education and Regulatory Training (ALERT) class for business owners licensed to serve/sell alcohol. The training is designed to teach alcohol laws and deter under 21 sales as well as sales to intoxicated individuals though effective policies and procedures. The class will be held on Friday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ruth Chris Steakhouse, 7315 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda.

Additionally, there will be an ALERT in Spanish on Monday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the DLC, 201 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg. The trainings are free but space is limited and registration is encouraged.

DLC trains approximately 1,000 hospitality professionals at no cost each year.  ALERT has become a national model and is used by other jurisdictions throughout the country. DLC offers free alcohol education and best practices to alcohol license holders and their staff.

“Acting as a resource to licensees is a priority for us at Liquor Control,” said Kathie Durbin, division chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education at Liquor Control.

“We think it’s really important for all staff  as well as managers to have this training,” says Dave Pannell, general manager of Ruth Chris Restaurant.

ALERT classes are held regularly the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the DLC, 201 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg. For more information, or to register for an upcoming ALERT class, call 240-777-1999 or email dlc@montgomerycountymd.gov.
