Montgomery County Public Libraries to Present Nationally Recognized Authors April Ryan and Clarence Lusane for Two Dynamic Discussions on American Politics and the Interconnection of Race

Montgomery County Public Libraries will present two nationally recognized authors, April Ryan and Clarence Lusane who will discuss their respective works on American politics, the interconnection of race, the African American experience and the White House.

 

On Thursday, September 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Ryan will discuss her best-selling books, The Presidency in Black and White: My Up-Close View of the Three Presidents and Race in America. As a seasoned White House Correspondent and award winning journalist Ryan offers compelling and personal behind-the-scenes perspectives and gives insight into race relations in contemporary America. This program is sponsored by the Silver Spring Library Advisory Committee and Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter.

 

Lusane, who serves as chairman of the Department of Political Science at Howard University, will discuss his latest book, The Black History of the White House onThursday, September 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Lusane will present acomprehensive history of the White House from a unique perspective telling the story of thepresidential residence from the time when generations of enslaved African Americans were forced to work at the White House to current times, when the Obamas are living in the White House as First Family. Lusane has written books about national and international politics, globalization, U.S. foreign policy, human rights and social issues.

The events will take place at the Silver Spring branch of Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL), 900 Wayne Avenue. Both events are free and open to the public.
