For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 21, 2016
On Friday, September 30, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration will activate an upgraded traffic signal at the MD 355 (Rockville Pike) / Jones Bridge Road intersection in Montgomery County. The signal will provide a double-left turns from southbound MD 355 to eastbound Jones Bridge Road during the afternoon weekday rush hour only (between 3 and 6 p.m.).
Currently, the southbound traffic pattern at Jones Bridge Road includes three through travel lanes and one dedicated left turn lane. The upgraded signal adds a fiber optic sign over the third through lane, displaying a left turn only arrow. On weekends and weekdays between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. the next day, drivers traveling southbound on MD 355 will continue to have three through travel lanes and one left turn lane.
The traffic signal enhancement is part of intersection projects associated with BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) improvements in Montgomery County.
Those who have questions about this project may contact the SHA District 3 Traffic Office at 301-513-7409 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Drivers should remain alert and look out for other drivers and pedestrians traveling in the intersection.
