Montgomery County Public Libraries’ Aspen Hill Branch to Temporarily Close for Refresh

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 27, 2016

Montgomery County Public Libraries announced the Aspen Hill branch will temporarily close on November 9 to be “refreshed” under the Library Refurbishment Level-of-Effort initiative in the Capital Improvement Program.  The branch will be closed for approximately six months.

A “refresh” project Capital Improvement Program process allows library buildings to get significant and timely updates without having to close for the lengthy time it takes for a full renovation.

“Physical construction for the refresh project at the Aspen Hill branch is scheduled in late November, however, we are closing ahead of the construction start date to complete the internal reorganization of collections and shelving, and the temporary relocation of books and equipment,” noted Library Director Parker Hamilton. “We look forward to welcoming the customers of Aspen Hill back to their newly refreshed branch in the spring of 2017.”

Under the project, new collaboration rooms will be added, some interior spaces will be rearranged and new Circulation and Information Desks will be provided.  The building interior will be painted and recarpeted, and the public restrooms will be updated.  Other features that will be available to the community when the branch reopens include a children’s program room; new furniture in the adult and children’s area; additional seating; new materials for specific subject areas in the collection; a consolidated arrangement of the public use computers; and laptop equipment that can be borrowed for use in the library.

Please check the Aspen Hill Library Blog for information regarding the temporary closing, including the last date for book returns in the book drop and the last date for placement of holds from the Aspen Hill pickup location. While the branch is being revitalized, residents may use any of MCPL’s 21 branches or its 24/7 website. Nearby branches are Olney, Rockville Memorial and Twinbrook.

The project is partially funded by the County Library Capital Grant Program and the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Library Development and Services.
