ROCKVILLE, Md., October 25, 2016—The Montgomery County Council, which each year holds Town Hall Meetings throughout the County in its efforts to find out what issues most concern residents, will meet with residents of the Silver Spring area when it hosts a Town Hall Meeting starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The meeting will be held at Sligo Middle School.

Sligo Middle School is located at 1401 Dennis Ave. in Silver Spring. A pre-meeting reception will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will be recorded by and rebroadcast at various times in the weeks following the meeting. Susan Kenedy, a producer for the County station, will moderate the meeting. The video will be broadcast on County Cable Montgomery (CCM) on Cable Channels 996 (high definition) and 6 (standard definition) on Comcast; Channels 1056 (HD) and 6 (SD) on RCN; and Channel 30 on Verizon.

The nine-member Council is composed of President Nancy Floreen; Vice President Roger Berliner; and Councilmembers Marc Elrich, Tom Hucker, Sidney Katz, George Leventhal, Nancy Navarro, Craig Rice and Hans Riemer.

Residents will be encouraged to ask questions on any issue. Among the issues that are likely to be discussed are the changes in effect in Montgomery County Public Schools this year after the Council voted to add $89 million above the minimum state requirements to the school system’s budget for the current year and asked the Board of Education to make targeted improvements in programming. It is also expected that residents will want to know about transportation and public safety issues.

“We are constantly seeking new and better ways to find out what most concerns County residents,” said Council President Floreen. “We are always looking at how new technology can help residents more easily contact us on the things that are important to them. However, there remain few better ways for elected officials to interact with residents than meeting with them directly at forums such as Town Hall Meetings. With so much going on in Silver Spring, we are all looking forward to this meeting.”
