Montgomery County Public Libraries to Participate in Second Annual Maryland STEM Festival - Nov 4 through 13

Montgomery County Public Libraries will participate in the Second Maryland Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Festival taking place November 4 through 13.  The festival is a statewide event that will focus on promoting inspirational, educational and accessible STEM programming to Maryland’s communities.

MCPL’s 21 branches will offer over 35 free, exciting STEM programs for kids and adults throughout the 10 days of the Festival. 

A sampling of activities will include:

  • Discussion led by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on careers in environmental science

  • Science and joy of winemaking

  • Everything you/your family ever wanted to know about lightning and thunder

  • Discussion on starting your own gaming company; Hear how Rick Kelly of UnderByte did just that!

  • Session on recording and editing video game footage

  • Robots built by high school students

The 2016 Maryland STEM Festival will officially kick off with opening ceremonies taking place in Baltimore at the Maryland Science Center/National Aquarium on November 4.  The closing ceremony will take place at the Thurmont Regional Library on November 13.
