For Immediate Release: Tuesday, December 20, 2016
Montgomery County Department of Transportation Director Al Roshdieh joined federal, state and local officials to celebrate the opening of the Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center by the Maryland Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). The Transit Center is located at 7900 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park. Operations at the Center will begin on Thursday, December 22.
The Center is expected to greatly improve pedestrian safety by consolidating bus stops in one centralized location; make taking transit easier and even more convenient; provide a handy transfer point to the future Purple Line, with direct connections to destinations throughout the region; and provide many passenger amenities, including real time bus arrival screens, additional lighting, better circulation, and enhanced passenger shelters, benches, and waiting areas.
Five of the 11 bus routes passing through the Center are Ride On routes, providing service to thousands of daily passengers, as the largest bus-to-bus transfer area in the region that is not located at a rail station. Montgomery County contributed $2.5 million to the joint project with MTA and Prince Georges County.
Joining Roshdieh were Federal Transit Administration Regional Administrator Theresa Garcia Crews, MDOT Assistant Secretary of Operations Kevin Reigrut, MTA and CEO Paul Comfort, Prince George’s County Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Barry Stanton, Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority General Manager and CEO Paul Wiedefeld and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Executive Director Chuck Bean.
