Montgomery County Public Libraries Offers a Series of Programs
to Commemorate Black History Month
A series of programs to commemorate Black History Month will take place at several branches of Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) during February. The series “Black History Month - Our Heritage: From the Civil War to Education in Montgomery County” is presented by members of the Montgomery County Historical Society (MCHS) Speakers Bureau. MCHS is a non-profit organization that serves the community through educational programs and whose mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and share the histories of County residents.
The free programs suitable for adults will take place at the following branches:

Marilyn J. Praisner, 14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville
One- and Two-Room Schoolhouses in Montgomery County and the Stories They Tell about the Early Days of Public Education
Speaker: Ralph Buglass
February 12 at 2 p.m.:
Quince Orchard, 15831 Quince Orchard Road, Gaithersburg
The Boyd School & Education
Speaker: Elaine Fors-MacKellar
February 16 at 6 p.m.:
Twinbrook, 201 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville
Within these Walls: The Contraband Hospital and the African Americans Who Served There Speaker: Jill Newmark
“We are very pleased to partner with the MCHS to host this program series that tells the story of the County’s history,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “To learn about the past, about the people who made a difference in the community, and about the accomplishments that we have achieved as a County, can bring people together. The library, as a community space for learning and education, is the perfect setting for this type of program.”
