New Bikeshare Station at New Hampshire and Kirklynn Avenues

On February 15, MCDOT installed two new Bikeshare stations in the City of Takoma Park that extend the Bikeshare network east towards the Takoma/Langley Transit Center and brings the County’s total number of stations to 61.

One new station is located on the east side of MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue), south of Merwood Drive, just outside the Takoma Park Recreation Center near the Long Branch Trail. The second station is located on Kirklynn Avenue near its intersection with MD 650, a long block from the Takoma/Langley Transit Center.

Takoma Park received a 2015 MD Bikeways Program Retrofit Grant that is funding the purchase and installation of the stations and bikes. MCDOT agreed to order, operate, install and maintain these stations for the City. Takoma Park provided the concrete pads and assumed some planning and site preparation costs.

Bikeshare stations are also located in Bethesda, Friendship Heights, Silver Spring, Rockville, Shady Grove and the Life Sciences Center area. Montgomery County’s Bikeshare program is part of the regional Capital Bikeshare network, linking the County with the District of Columbia, Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax County. MCDOT’s Commuter Services section operates the MC Liberty program that provides free Bikeshare memberships, helmets and training to qualified low-income residents.
