ROCKVILLE, Md., March 2, 2017—The Montgomery County Council will meet with residents of the Silver Spring area when it hosts a Town Hall Meeting starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at the Long Branch Community Center.

The Long Branch Community Center is located at 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. A pre-meeting reception will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will be recorded by and rebroadcast at various times in the weeks following the meeting. Susan Kenedy, a producer for the County station, will moderate the meeting. The video will be broadcast on County Cable Montgomery (CCM) on Cable Channels 996 (high definition) and 6 (standard definition) on Comcast; Channels 1056 (HD) and 6 (SD) on RCN; and Channel 30 on Verizon.

The nine-member Council is composed of President Roger Berliner; Vice President Hans Riemer; and Councilmembers Marc Elrich, Nancy Floreen, Tom Hucker, Sidney Katz, George Leventhal, Nancy Navarro and Craig Rice.

Residents will be encouraged to ask questions on any issue. Among the issues likely to be raised are those concerning schools, transportation, public safety, the County’s immigration policy and lessons learned from the 2016 fatal apartment fire in Long Branch.

“We are constantly seeking new and better ways to find out what most concerns County residents,” said Council President Berliner. “We are always looking at how new technology can help residents more easily contact us on the things that are important to them. However, there remain few better ways for elected officials to interact with residents than meeting with them directly at forums such as Town Hall Meetings. With so much going on in Silver Spring, we are all looking forward to this meeting.”
