ROCKVILLE, Md., April 7, 2017—Montgomery College Financial Aid Outreach Counselor Wendy Maldonado and Luis Maldonado, the communications director of the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU), will be the featured guests at 2:30 p.m. today on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned In with the Montgomery County Council) on Radio America (WACA 1540 AM). The focus of the show will be on methods to help finance a college education.

The percentage of Latino high school graduates enrolling in four-year colleges or universities nationwide has been higher than the number of white students enrolling in college after graduating from high school. Despite the increase in Latino college enrollment in recent years, those students are still half as likely as white students to complete a four-year college degree. Often, financing four years of college is one of the things that prevent Latino students from completing their degree programs.

Today’s show will provide information on both basic and unique ways to find financial for college.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered into a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
