will focus on scams that target consumers

ROCKVILLE, Md., April 21, 2017—Lorena Bailey and Michelle Escobar of Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection will be the featured guests at 2:30 p.m. today on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned In with the Montgomery County Council) on Radio America (WACA 1540 AM). The show will look at the most common types of scams that occur this time of year in Montgomery County, with a special focus on those that specifically target the Latino community.

The Montgomery County Council has strongly supported the efforts of the Office of Consumer Protection, which is responsible for enforcing laws regarding unfair and deceptive business acts. Every year thousands of people are victims of a variety of fraudulent activities and scams.

Today’s show will provide information about what people should do if they think they have been victims of a scam—or even if they are dubious about a service for which they have been contacted about or agreed to have performed. The WACA phone lines will be open to take calls from listeners.

More information about the County’s Office of Consumer Protection can be found at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/ocp/

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered into a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one- hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.

In addition to the radio broadcast, the show can be heard via the Internet at: http://tunein.com/radio/Radio-America-1540-s6029/ .

Video links with a summary of the show are available each week at the County Council's newly-redesigned, mobile friendly web site at: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council .
