ROCKVILLE, Md., May 8, 2017—Sean Pang came to the United States from Hong Kong at age 6, knowing little English. He learned his new language while a student in Montgomery County Public Schools and went on to earn a teaching degree at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Recently, his enthusiasm for teaching at Rockville High School earned him the distinction of being named the Montgomery County Teacher of the Year by The Washington Post.
His remarkable story is one of three featured segments on the newest edition of the current edition of The Bottom Line on County Cable Montgomery (CCM), which is viewable on Cable Channels 996 (high definition) and 6 (standard definition) on Comcast; Channels 1056 (HD) and 6 (SD) on RCN; and Channel 30 on Verizon.
The new edition will start showing Wednesdays on CCM on Monday at 12 noon, on Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The 15-minute show is viewable on demand: https://youtu.be/O_rG3RJwfsM .

Sean Pang’s passion for teaching—and trying to make learning fun and interesting for his students—is always evident. In addition to teaching English, he works with Rockville High’s television production program, coaches volleyball and is the adviser to the school’s literary magazine Echo.
On May 2, the County Council honored Sean for his accomplishments, with Councilmembers Craig Rice and Sidney Katz leading the ceremonies.
The Wootton High School graduate has never lost his appreciation for what teachers did for him. On the day he learned that he won the recognition from The Washington Post, he drove to the UMBC campus to seek out some of his former professors to thank them for helping him achieve his goal of becoming a teacher.
Susan Kenedy was the host and producer of The Bottom Line. Mike Springirth was the chief videographer and editor.
