Dive Into Summer with Water Safety Day

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 11, 2017

The Montgomery County Department of Recreation and the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville will host a free Water Safety Day event on Friday, June 2 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Water Park at Bohrer Park located at 512 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The event will be held rain or shine.

“As summer gets underway and outdoor community pools open for the summer season, the timing is perfect to focus on water safety,” said Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. “I encourage all families to participate in this event to learn effective ways to avoid accidents.”

The event will include information booths, lifeguard demonstrations, the proper use of personal flotation devices, how to safely assist someone struggling in the water, the importance of sunscreen to prevent skin damage and free swim lesson screenings.

Anyone attending Water Safety Day who visits the various information booths can stay and enjoy a free swim. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information about the event, call the Department of Recreation Aquatics Team at 240-777-8060.
