Nighttime Paving to Close One Lane of MD 355 for Four Nights Starting Monday, July 10

For Immediate Release: Friday, July 7, 2017

MCDOT will close one lane to traffic on Maryland (MD) Route 355 in Hyattstown from the Montgomery County/Frederick County border to the Hyattstown Fire Station on four consecutive nights beginning at 9 p.m. and reopening at 5 a.m. the following morning. The closures will occur Monday, July 10 through Thursday, July 13. Depending on the weather, a fifth night may be needed to complete the work. In this case, an additional night closure would occur starting Sunday night at 9 p.m. on July 23 and ending Monday morning at 5 a.m. on July 24.

Construction crews will mill and resurface this section of MD Route 355. The work is part of a larger project that is constructing a five-foot-wide, 1,900-foot-long sidewalk, which extends north of the MD 109/MD 355 intersection to the shopping center at the County line, and a 10-foot-wide, concrete shared use path from the MD 109/MD 355 intersection south 400 feet to a point near the WSSC property located opposite from Hyattstown Mill Road. Other project elements include ADA compliant ramps, concrete driveway aprons, curb and gutter, drainage improvements, pedestrian signals at the MD 109 intersection, retaining walls and landscaping.

The new sidewalk will expand safe and direct pedestrian access within the Hyattstown Historical District to the neighborhood, retail areas, civic space, churches, historical sites, Little Bennett Regional Park and a transit stop.
