In Montgomery County more than 55,000 MCPS students receive free and reduced-price meals and many families struggle to afford necessities like school supplies.  The Give BACKpacks Program provides backpacks filled will school supplies for the upcoming school year.  More information about this program can be viewed at:

The Truancy Prevention Program was implemented by the State’s Attorney’s Office in partnership with MCPS.  It is an early intervention program with a mission to improve attendance of middle school children by discovering the root causes of truancy and assisting students and families with issues that may impact attendance.  A student is considered truant if he or she misses 10 percent or more of school days in a year without lawful reason.  More information about the Truancy Prevention Program can be viewed at:

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
