Immigration Attorneys and

Latin American Community Liaison to Discuss DACA as Featured Guests on Council’s

Radio America Show

At 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14 on WACA 1540 AM,

Nestor Alvarenga and immigration attorneys Sanabria and Rodriguez discuss County’s legal resources

ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 14, 2017—Immigration attorneys Gunther Sanabria and Dagoberto Rodriguez, of the private practice Rodriguez & Sanabria, and Nestor Alvarenga, Latin American Community Liaison with the County’s Office of Community Partnerships, are the featured guests on the Sept. 15 broadcast of En Sintonía con el Concejo del Conado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). They will discuss issues facing “Dreamers,” people enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which the federal government plans to end.

The broadcast will explain the legal resources available through the County to Dreamers and other immigrants, and address potential pitfalls in trying to access professional, affordable legal counsel.

Also discussed are the consequences of the federal government’s decision to end DACA, a program established in 2012 to allow people who entered the United States illegally as minors to receive renewable two-year deferrals from deportation and eligibility for work permits. Nearly 800,000 people enrolled in the program are now in legal limbo.

The mission of the Office of Community Partnerships is to strengthen relationships between the Montgomery County government and the residents it serves, with special focus on underserved and emerging communities and neighbors in need.
