National Preparedness Month is Focus of Council’s Radio America Show

At 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 on WACA 1540 AM,

Marianne Souders from Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security will discuss how to prepare for and deal with emergency scenarios in the D.C. area

ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 21, 2017—Marianne Souders, from the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, Lorna Virgili from the County’s Office of Public Information, and Marisol Madrid from New York Life Insurance Company are the featured guests on the Friday, Sept. 22 broadcast of En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). They will discuss emergency preparedness in Montgomery County and the Washington metropolitan area, as part of the County’s efforts at raising awareness for National Preparedness Month.

The broadcast will focus on emergency scenarios, such as terrorist attacks and specific types of natural disasters, that are relevant to this region, from the perspective of planning for and responding to them. Every September is National Preparedness Month (NPM) nationwide, which is a nationwide initiative sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Department of Homeland Security that educates individuals and families about emergency preparedness.

Guests will address preparedness from a safety and security perspective, as well as from the perspective of having adequate and appropriate insurance in the event of a disaster. The guests will take calls to answer residents’ questions about specific scenarios.

The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of all emergency management and Homeland Security related activities for Montgomery County. For NPM they have been conducting and supporting a number of events to help our community prepare for disasters.
