Unity Walk and Resource Fair; Opening Doors to Interfaith Understanding

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 28, 2017

Sunday, October 8, 2017, Montgomery County Executive's Faith Community Advisory Council in partnership with the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington, and the faith communities will host a Resource Fair at 1 p.m. followed by a Unity Walk, of people of all faiths, along New Hampshire Avenue at 2:30 p.m. Both events are free and will begin at the Chinmaya Mission at 46 Norwood Road in Silver Spring.  Visitor parking is available at Blake High School at 300 Norwood Road.

The Unity Walk will feature seven houses of worship opening their doors in welcome and offering understanding of how faith traditions have been worshipping for thousands of years.  People will also learn about community service programs including the beautiful Community Clinic at the Muslim Community Center serving thousands and enjoy musical performances.

The Resource Fair will include free henna painting and arts (block-painting and coloring); a voter-registration opportunity; information on our basic human rights; programs welcoming refugees and immigrants; and a Sukkah will be built for people to join in celebrating the Jewish Sukkot holiday that runs from October 4 through 11.

The walk, escorted by Montgomery County Police, will begin at the Chinmaya Mission and move consecutively to the People’s Community Baptist Church; Heritage Christian Church; Muslim Community Center; First Alliance Church; Transfiguration Episcopal Church; and the Cambodian Buddhist Society.  Shuttle bus service will return walkers to their cars at Blake High School.
