Tracking Performance at Public Schools
is Focus of Committee Meeting
on Monday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 9, 2017—The Montgomery County Council’s Education (ED) Committee will meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 13 in the Third Floor Council Conference Room to review performance tracking at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). The ED Committee is chaired by Councilmember Rice and includes Councilmembers Elrich and Navarro.

Dr. Jack Smith, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Janet Wilson, Associate Superintendent, Office of Shared Accountability, are expected to attend the meeting, which will focus MCPS’ revised performance tracking and data reporting structure within the context of MCPS’ Evidence of Learning framework. This framework is intended to accurately measure and emphasize students’ readiness and successful transitions through the instructional levels, with the ultimate goal of college and career readiness for all students.

The ED Committee also will review Montgomery College metrics and enrollment trends. The Committee will discuss action steps for implementing the recommendations of the Office of Legislative Oversight in its 2017 report on Montgomery College’s performance metrics, including a proposed template for the College to annually report performance data. The Committee will also receive a briefing from the College on enrollment drivers and trends, and how enrollment changes impact College operations.

The Planning, Housing, and Economic Development (PHED) Committee will meet at 2 p.m. in the Seventh Floor Council Hearing Room to review the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Area Minor Master Plan. The PHED Committee is chaired by Councilmember Floreen and includes Councilmember Leventhal and Council Vice President Riemer.

A public hearing was held on October 24 on the 117-acre Grosvenor-Strathmore plan, which advances the County’s goal of transit-oriented development at Metro stations to keep up with housing demands in a sustainable manner.
