Committee work begins on County’s capital budget on Feb. 12
Capital budget review for Montgomery County Public Libraries, Fire and Rescue Services, Wheaton redevelopment, Montgomery Parks and other departments


ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 9, 2018—On February 12 at 9:30 a.m. Council Committees will begin working on the County’s capital budget. The Council held three public hearings on the capital budget and heard from 73 residents. The Council will take all testimony, emails and letters into consideration as they make decisions on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Capital Budget and the FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program (CIP).

The County Executive’s recommended six-year CIP totals $4.521 billion.

At 9:30 a.m. the Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee will discuss capital budget projects for the Public Arts Trust and Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL). The meeting will take place in the Seventh Floor Council Hearing Room. The HHS Committee is chaired by Councilmember George Leventhal and includes Councilmember Roger Berliner and Councilmember Craig Rice.

Also at 9:30 a.m. the Public Safety (PS) Committee will discuss projects for Fire and Rescue Services. The meeting will take place in the Third Floor Council Conference Room. The PS Committee is chaired by Councilmember Marc Elrich and includes Councilmember Tom Hucker and Councilmember Sidney Katz.

At 2 p.m. the Planning, Housing, and Economic Development (PHED) Committee and Government Operations and Fiscal Policy (GO) Committee will meet jointly to discuss the Wheaton Redevelopment Program. The joint committee meeting will take place in the Seventh Floor Council Hearing Room. The PHED Committee is chaired by Councilmember Nancy Floreen and includes Council President Hans Riemer and Councilmember George Leventhal. The GO Committee is chaired by Council Vice President Nancy Navarro and includes Council President Hans Riemer and Councilmember Sidney Katz.

At the conclusion of the joint PHED and GO Committee meeting, the PHED Committee will meet to discuss the capital budgets for Montgomery Parks, the Department of Recreation, the Housing Opportunities Commission and Housing and Community Affairs. The Committee also will review economic development projects. The meeting will be in the Seventh Floor Council Hearing Room.
