Committee recommendations for
County’s capital budget on March 13

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 12, 2018—The Montgomery County Council will meet on March 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the third floor hearing room to review Committee recommendations for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Capital Budget and the FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program (CIP). Over the past few weeks, Council Committees have reviewed and made recommendations on the County Executive’s $4.521 billion recommended six-year CIP.

The Council will review the following FY19-24 CIP recommendations:

The Council also will introduce Bill 9-18, Child Care – Ready to Learn Initiative – Established. Council President Hans Riemer is the lead sponsor. Bill 9-18 would require the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to establish a Ready to Learn Initiative for children from low-income families. The bill would require DHHS to coordinate with the Office of Procurement to establish an open solicitation for early care and education slots for providers that meet certain requirements and require the Office of Legislative Oversight to submit an annual report. The goal Bill 9-18 is to increase access to affordable, quality childcare for children from low-income families.

The Council also will introduce Bill 8-18, Streets and Roads - Storm Drainage Right-of-Way – Abandonments. Council President Riemer is the lead sponsor, at the request of the County Executive. Bill 8-18 would allow the County Executive to abandon a right-of-way that is used exclusively for storm drainage. The goal of the bill is to streamline and simplify the abandonment of unnecessary storm drain easements.
