Community Recreation Center in Rockville
Forum’s “A Spotlight on Self Care” theme focuses on detecting elder abuse,
avoiding senior scams, caring for one’s mind and body and living a fulfilling life

ROCKVILLE, Md., April 9, 2018—Montgomery County Councilmember Sidney Katz, who represents Council District 3, which includes Gaithersburg, Rockville, Washington Grove, Leisure World and parts of Aspen Hill, Derwood, North Potomac and Potomac, will host a Senior Forum and Resource Fair at the Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13. The forum, entitled “A Spotlight on Self Care,” will focus on four major areas: recognizing the signs of elder abuse and neglect, protecting seniors from scams, caring for the mind and body and ways for seniors to live life to the fullest through volunteering. It will be accompanied by an informational resource fair showcasing a wide range of service providers to seniors.

The Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center is located at 14625 Bauer Drive in Rockville, Md.

The Senior Forum and resource fair are free and open to the public. The speakers will begin at 10:30 a.m. and finish at 11:45 a.m. The resource fair will open at 11:45 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Councilmember Katz serves on the Public Safety (PS) Committee as its lead member for Behavioral Health in the Justice System. The PS Committee has jurisdiction over the County’s consumer protection programs and public safety issues affecting seniors. Councilmember Katz’s district includes the City of Rockville.

“I look forward to hosting another Senior Forum and Resource Fair in Rockville,” said Councilmember Katz. “We know that providing timely and relevant information on how to best care for the body and mind, preventing senior abuse and neglect and avoiding scams will help seniors live safe, full and enriching lives. I am pleased to bring the County’s leading experts together to address these important issues.”

• Gretchen Zekiel, Senior Fellow/Program Manager, 50+ Volunteer Network, Montgomery County Volunteer Center
