Montgomery County Public Libraries Celebrates Vinyl Culture with JUST FOR THE RECORD – A VINYL DAY

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) presents Just for the Record -A Vinyl Day on Saturday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Silver Spring Library located at 900 Wayne Avenue.

This free event, for customers of all ages, is a celebration of vinyl music, its culture, art and sound. There will be panel discussions related to vinyl, recording and collecting; DJ performances; karaoke; vinyl trivia; makerspace activities for the whole family and demonstrations with turntables and vinyl records.

Jeff Corbett, author of Vinyl Freak: Love Letters to a Dying Medium, is the keynote speaker and available to sign his book.

Just for the Record -A Vinyl Day is hosted in partnership with Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. (FOLMC); Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter; Levine Music, and Open Sky Jazz. The FOLMC will sell books and records and conduct a silent auction during the event.

“MCPL is so stoked to be able to host Just for the Record - a Vinyl Day at the Silver Spring Library,” said MCPL Acting Director Anita Vassallo. “Music, nostalgia, books, cool events for all ages and people enjoying all of the above – what could be more fun?  Community events like this one help to make our libraries the vibrant, exciting spaces that our residents appreciate and support, and we are fortunate to have these great partners to make it all happen.”

“This new and unique program is one of many programs that FOLMC proudly partners with MCPL,” said Ari Z. Brooks, FOLMC executive director. “I hope that these events draw a diverse audience and showcase the many resources and programs that libraries provide to county residents.”

No advanced registration is needed. Some programs may be space limited and time sensitive.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite recording artist. Normal library dress policy will be in effect.
