For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 8, 2018

Get ready to groove!

The popular Thursday night summer concerts are coming back to Veterans Plaza outside the Silver Spring Civic Building from June 21 through August 9.

These family-friendly concerts take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, located at 1 Veterans Place. The concerts are free, and feature a variety of styles of music, dancing and face painting and games for the kids. In addition, there is a free raffle with prizes for the adults, and toys and gifts for the younger crowd.

The 2018 summer concert lineup includes the following performers:

June 21- Bobby & the Believers, Motown, Rock and Roll

Bobby & the Believers will get audience members dancing.   The band's musical foundation is based on the classic "horn band" sound, which includes The Motown Sound, big band, funk, powerful ballads, and new music that covers popular songs from the 1960s to today.

June 28 - Built for Comfort Band, Blues

The Built for Comfort Band starts with a deep foundation in the blues, vocals, hot guitar licks, and a tight rhythm section with great groove.  The band will delight audiences with its soulful and sassy music.

July 5 - MoCo’s Got Talent

MoCo’s Got Talent is a countywide talent competition for middle and high school students to showcase their artistry in the visual and performing arts.   Finalists will present their winning musical performances.

July 12 - Gary and the Groove, Rock and Roll

Gary and the Groove features music from the early days of the 1950s through the 1990s, and even some hits from today.

July 19 - Sweet Saludos, Latin

Sweet Saludos features incredible vocal harmonies and guitar arrangements combined with powerful percussion. With popular and traditional South American, Central American, and Cuban songs, the trio will have people dancing.

July 26 - Route 66, Classic Rock, Country

Route 66, also known as Club 66, plays jams that will get the audience pumped. The band plays a little bit of everything from rock and roll, classic rock, blues, Motown, boogie-woogie and old school country.

August 2- Josh Christina, Rockabilly

Baltimore-based rockabilly artist, Josh Christina, inherited his musical chops from his father (a drummer), his mother (Baltimore-area singer Patti Christina), and his grandmother, who was a big band singer in the 1940s and 1950s.  Josh spent the past 15 years honing the sound - a combination of country, classic rock, big band and the rockabilly he was raised on.

August 9 - Soul Crackers, Blues, Jazz

The Soul Crackers take some of the greatest party music from artists like Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, Average White Band, Martha and the Vandellas, James Brown, and Tower of Power and make it their own. Expect to dance the night away.

The 2018 Summer Concert Series is sponsored by Discovery Communications, Live Nation, Montgomery County, the Silver Spring Urban District, Montgomery County Recreation, and the Celebrate Downtown Silver Spring Foundation, Inc.
