MCDOT Partners with Community Association to Upgrade Streetlights

MCDOT recently completed a project to upgrade streetlights in the Longmead Crossing community in Silver Spring through a cost-sharing project with the Association.  MCDOT upgraded 134 streetlights, replacing standard fiberglass poles and high-pressure, sodium, colonial post top fixtures with decorative, fluted poles and energy-saving, light emitting diode (LED) lights. MCDOT contributed the replacement cost for standard LED fixtures and the Association paid the difference between the cost of the poles and the decorative fixtures they preferred.
