DLC Celebrates Whiskey Appreciation Week, Grand Reopenings and a Second Anniversary

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 8, 2018

From June 11 to June 16, the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) is celebrating Whiskey Appreciation Week. Dozens of whiskey tastings are scheduled at DLC Liquor & Wine stores throughout the County; and educational events and product lotteries are also planned.

Each day has a unique theme that showcases the diversity of whiskey, just in time for Father's Day. On Tuesday, June 12, the brand ambassador for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg will lead a Scotch Ambassador Event in Potomac. On Thursday, June 14, Jack Daniel’s and Woodford Reserve will host two engraving events in honor of National Bourbon Day.

“We’re excited to share our passion for whiskey with consumers throughout the County,” said Robert Dorfman, director of the DLC. “Categories such as Scotch, Bourbon, and Irish Whiskey have been extremely popular in our stores, so it’s important that we create unique events where customers can learn about these items whether they are a whiskey aficionado or simply looking to try something new.”

In addition to a celebration of whiskey, the DLC is hosting grand reopening celebration events at two of its retail stores. On Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Seneca Meadows Liquor & Wine (20680 Seneca Meadows Parkway, Suite 2, Germantown) and Downtown Rockville Liquor & Wine (300 North Washington Street, Rockville) will have tastings, educational seminars, giveaways, and special discounts as part of their celebration. First come, first serve items, such as Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Sazerac Rye, Orphan Barrel Rhetoric and Orphan Barrel Entrapment will also be available.

“With the recent closing of our Milestone and Pike stores, we wanted to make sure customers had a reason to come into Downtown Rockville and Seneca Meadows, get familiar with the layout and product assortment, and most importantly, get to know our staff,” Dorfman said. “What better way to do this than through a grand reopening event?”

On Thursday, June 14, King Farm Liquor & Wine (302 King Farm Boulevard, Suite 120, Rockville) will celebrate its second anniversary. In addition to tastings throughout the day, Angel’s Envy will be on hand from 5 – 7 p.m. for a special event. First come, first serve items, such as Four Roses Anniversary Bourbon and George T. Stagg Jr. Bourbon will be available.
