ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 9, 2020—This afternoon Councilmember Nancy Navarro was reelected Co-Vice President of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), an organization that connects leaders in local jurisdictions in the Washington metropolitan area. MWCOG aims to shape strong communities and meet the region’s biggest challenges. Councilmember Navarro was elected in 2014 to serve on MWCOG’s Board of Directors.
“It is an honor and privilege to have been chosen to serve once more as Co-Vice President for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments,” said Councilmember Navarro, who chairs the Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and is a member of the Education and Culture Committee. “I look forward to collaborating with my fellow MWCOG corporate officers, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Prince William County Board of County Supervisors’ Chair-At-Large Ann Wheeler, and Lee District Supervisor at Fairfax County Government Rodney Lusk as we build upon the great work done by MWCOG previously, and help our region recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis.”
Councilmember Navarro has been a champion of regional cooperation and leveraging collaboration to spur innovation in housing and regional growth. In 2019, she was elected Co-Vice President of MWCOG in recognition of her leadership in passing a resolution calling for Montgomery County Government to work towards meeting updated housing targets set forth by MWCOG. These updated targets came about as a result of her membership in MWCOG’s regional housing workgroup.
