Wheaton Urban District’s Baila4Life “Dance for Life” Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month will also be discussed

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 6, 2022 —The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Vanessa Carbajal, victim-witness coordinator at the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office; Jessy Mejia-Terry, Latino Community Liaison at Montgomery County’s Office of Community Partnerships; Ricardo Loaiza, founder and executive director at Baila4Life and Michelle Ramirez, community outreach specialist at Montgomery Parks. The show will air Friday at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900 AM).

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The show will begin with the launch of the “Walk In Their Shoes” campaign, which is an education and prevention effort that includes survivor stories and art installations at more than 50 locations across Montgomery County. This campaign is a joint effort through the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council’s partnership with the Department of Recreation.

The second half of the show will focus on “Baila4Life,” which is a family event in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month taking place on October 8 and 15 at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Wheaton. Jessy Mejia-Terry and Ricardo Loaiza will discuss all the details of these events to commemorate Hispanic culture. There will be entertainment, live music, and dance lessons as well as COVID-19 vaccination clinics, health services and resource information. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Furthermore, to welcome fall, Montgomery Parks has prepared a series of special events and festivals across the County. One of the most popular entertainment events is the Eye Spy Trains located at Cabin John Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park. Residents and children can take a train ride through “Trainslyvania” every Saturday and Sunday until October 30. For more information on all the activities organized by Montgomery Parks click here.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
